That's so nice! What made you come up with the idea? I'm curious.

Years ago I was doing some leaf rubbings (place the leaf under the paper and rub a crayon/pastel on top) and turning them into birds. I thought I posted them on DA but I can't find them. Anyway, I came across a nice bright red leaf and wanted to test out if the beeswax would preserve the red color of the leaf. When I saw it in the wax I thought of those older leaf rubbings.

aha, I see! I've been using leaves and flowers with wax, recently, and I was just curious.

Anyway, thank you very much for replying!

I love how you have managed to take a simple object and give us the illusion of a living creature. A very fascinating concept.

Wow, I haven't been on the site in way too long! 22 new pieces of art by you! I took a look at them all, and love them. I especially love the sheer simplicity of this one. You made a leaf into a bird quite convincingly!

:giggle: Ha ha ha ha!!!! ^_____^ This is sooo great!!! I love the soft shadows spreading out from the legs. And the leaf works so perfectly. There's the illusion of the bird, but also something so much more. The wax looks incredible over top, especially in creating such a soft and subtle background. Lovely!

I am enjoying the encaustic more now that I am getting used to its characteristics. I was hoping the red of the leaf would stay once under the wax but it seems to be gradually browning. The browning could be an interesting time lapse piece but I'm too late for that. Even with the browning I still like the look of it.
Thank you very much!
