Busy Times

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 4, 2016, 6:44 AM
Busy times! Spring is here and I haven't caught my breath from the autumn and winter holiday season. With spring comes festivals and fundraisers. Another book is to be completed by mid April (if all goes according to plan), students to teach, more commission work to be completed and a solo show this autumn. The solo exhibit seems far away but I know art-wise it is not.

Im tired.
Maybe some coffee should keep me going.

Still Here

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 29, 2014, 5:25 PM
I haven't been posting as much due to projects in which I am involved. For those interested, some of the projects include commission work, another book, and artwork for a record album. I've finished the album art and wait for the musician to give me the go ahead to share it online.
I'm also preparing for an art festival coming up in a about a week or so (Jackson [GA] Fine Arts Festival, May 10th). I never feel like I have enough work for these festivals and hope what I have finished, and finish before then, will be enough.
The commission list is dwindling. For those waiting on their projects from me, if you have not heard from me about it, send me a message to confirm the project's status.
I hope your spring season has been going well. There has been a bout of rough weather in the U.S. and I empathize with those affected. I also worry because some of this weather hit close to home yesterday and more is expected tonight. Stay safe!

Also, for those interested, I have some interview stuff and other things posted that you may or may not have seen here on my Facebook page, Sweetgum Studio…

Thank you for stopping by and looking and I appreciate all the comments. More artwork is on the way!

Be well!

Artistic slumps, and slumps in general, are a unpleasant part of life that many of us have had to endure. I think the impact of a slump depends upon how we handle it. As a few of you are aware, I have been in a slump since the 2012 holidays. To help relieve the effect of the slump I finally remembered advice I have given to and received from others:
Go to a museum/gallery/website and look at other art.
Clean your workspace for art making.
Make random marks, doodles, sketches. Just do. Making art for just the sake of making it can pull one out of a creative slump.
Surround one self with other creative people.
Do not over think art making.
Change your scenery (this could go along with cleaning one's workspace).
Take a journey. You do not have to go far. A journey could take take place near where you live.

I cannot remember all the suggestions so feel free to add to the list.

Though I have been in a slump, it does not mean I can stop work. I have agreed to paint a wolf statue (Howl for UWG), a project similar to Cows on Parade, and an alphabet book for which I have done some illustrations has gained the interest of a small local publisher. So, I have been trying to work on both these projects dutifully to meet deadlines. Other projects are in need of completion too: commissions, domestic work (renovations, repairs, a fence, and more).
I have been busy but have not felt like I have accomplished much.
