What are those three grey figures under the fox? Are they people?

They are markers (like sticks or posts).

It feels sort of yin and yang, the way the eyes, face, and body reflect shadow and light to each other. It really looks nice.

I will try... and sorry but I am a boy/male/man . :D
Which brings me to the question, does my art look gender specific? I was just curious.

No worries! The images I have been making have had a soft or "children's bookish" feel because I have been trying to get into children's book work for several years. Also my kids and working with children have had an effect on how I make my images. I guess one grows accustomed to a way of doing something and it becomes difficult to stop or change.

Thanks for explaining and, again, I appreciate your comments.

Is it that difficult to get into children's book illustration? I guess we all like to do it, but you have a very nice style for that so good luck with that

May I ask- how do you choose your colours? I've been puzzled especially about those greenish-yellow and glowing turquoise colours that pop up in your works every now and than like little bonfires.

Your paintings always had that outlandish or even menacing feeling, which than again was soothed by unthreatening animals, which blended into the scene. But those colours- I find them highly alarming, aren't they? Yellow is a signal colour in every country after all and where in nature do you ever find turquoise?

Love the fox by the way :) It's always a great joy to puzzle over them.

The colors are often meant to set a mood or create an emotional feel depending upon the mood of the viewer. Also, colors have symbolic meanings and are used accordingly (for example, blue can symbolize truth; the intellect; peace; contemplation; coolness; water and the principles associated with water; the feminine principle. Blue is also a lunar color. Yellow can symbolize ambivalence; intellect; intuition).
Sometimes color is used for technical purposes, cool colors tend to recede and warm color come forth.
Your input is most appreciated! Thank you!!!

Its honestly fascinating how you manage to bring over the connotation and the adjective on such seemingly... flat-not expressive simple looking depiction - I mean with limited ways of portrayal of emotion or signs which usually do. The tails make me think on coil and night in small towns or woods where people make fire and roast pieces of meat... what could attract the fox... indeed. C:

I am pleased with what you said about the light. The light source is meant to be an undetermined light source. Is it fire light? Light from a near by house or building? Is it the setting sun, is it the rising sun? Is it light from an otherworldly source? All of these things come to mind when I look at it.
