Completed for an upcoming art festival this Fall. I am planning on at least two festivals this Fall, both being in October. It may seem early still to be working on artwork for the festivals but when I sit down and think about it the events are only 10 weeks away.

A winged wonder. And that mosaic feel on the breast is especially fabulous.

Love how you get so much expression in the subtle tilt of the head, and the placing of the eyes.

It's never too early to work on art for an event. Sounds like it'll be fun, though. Good luck! :D

I've been wondering for quite some time now...how do you incorporate those letters into your paintings? Do you cut them from papers/books, then put them on the canvas and paint over them or someting?

Well, I used several methods. For this piece it is simply collage I painted over with glazes of color. I find painting a glaze of color over the collage work unifies the many pieces of paper.
Other methods I use:
Direct Image Transfer [link]
Packing Tape Transfer [link] . This method works well with text because there is no mirroring. Tips the video doesn't mention: use warm water to soak the image (5 minutes); use acrylic medium to adhere the image to your surface; the image will be glossy. If you want the surface of the transfer to be matte, apply a matting agent such as matte medium in layers until you reach the desired effect. I recommend using Golden Matte Medium because it provides a "tooth" to the surface when dry. This means one can draw on top of where the medium was applied. Not all mediums have this characteristic. Also, the tape will have an edge that can be seen on artwork depending upon how much medium is used and how the tape is used.
I hope this helps. I also encourage you to do some more research on these methods other than these two videos. You may find a better "how to" example. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks a lot for your extensive explanation! I'll be sure to check out those links and do some experimenting with the mentioned techniques.
