First, the colors are very complimentary of one another. It's very pleasing to the eye how you integrate and develop varying hues within the palette. I also enjoy how you use negative space to balance the composition. Although I love the white dot of eye, I feel it a bit too stark for the mutation of colors you've chosen. I would suggest toning it down just a tad to better integrate with the overall design. As it stands now, it seems to protrude as a detachment, or a last minute addition vs. a smooth integration of overall style and layout.
I know it needs something to balance but I'm uncertain the black swoop of line is the thing to do it. I personally feel it, in combination with the signature, detracts a bit too much from this priceless little treasure.
Depending upon what you want and what's available, the original may be in your price range. Depending upon what you want. Good luck on your raise! And if you are still interested when you get it, note me or check out my Etsy Shop [link]

As always, enjoy and look forward to your posts.
