I had a request for further insight. Not all meaning will be revealed. ;)
The bird: transcendence; the soul; the ability to enter a higher state of consciousness.
There are 26 triangles over the back of the bird. 2+6=8. Eight: the number of spirituality; regeneration; rebirth; unending; infinity, usually represented by a ∞. 10 of these triangles are colored. 10: the number of the cosmos; the paradigm of creation. Ten is the perfect number, the return to unity.
The triangle: the three fold nature of the universe; heaven, earth, man; man, woman, child; body, soul, spirit; the mystic number 3; the upward pointing triangle is solar and symbolizes life, fire, flame; the downward pointing triangle is lunar; the feminine principle; the waters.
the above mentioned meaning of symbols comes from research done and from J.C. COOPER's AN ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TRADITIONAL SYMBOLS, copyright 1978 Thames & Hudson Ltd., London

Hi, I am an editor for a college poetry publication, the Clay Bird Review, and we really love your piece! We actually have a poem that we think works really well with your artwork and we were wondering if we could have your permission to match it to a poem and post it on our Facebook page!

This is great! You k now given the right story you REALLY should do a childrens book. Hell, even a more adult oriented book like Animal Farm. Wonderful colours in this.

Well, I have been trying to get into the children's illustration field for several years now. We, a local author and I, have just had a few meetings with a small publisher and hope to have an alphabet book available in stores and online by Fall 2013.
I like the idea of an adult oriented book like you mentioned. I will keep this in mind. Thank you much!!!

You have an absolutely wonderful gallery here, very inspiring work! I am curious about one thing though: What kind of glue do you use for the 'collage-paper' to stick on the cavas? I have been playing around with both acrylic medium and wallpaper glue myself, but wondering if there is a better or more lasting alternative...

Loved your interview here on DA, thank you for contributing! ;-)

There are many mediums and glues to use for collage. Not all brands of mediums and glues have the same characteristics so some experimenting may be needed. I usually buy products that have more than one use (I'm on a budget!).
I use Golden's matte medium for thinner papers. The Golden matte medium has a tooth when it dries and lets me draw on top of what I have glued down. Note: not all matte mediums have tooth when dry. Many are slick. This matte medium has multiple uses as a ground, medium, and glue.
I also use Utrecht's heavy body gel medium for thicker papers. The gel medium works for image transfers too. This gel medium has multiple uses as a medium, glue, and can be used as a topcoat.
One more product I use is PVA (Lineco brand) glue. I see used for book making mostly but it can be used for collage. It has good "lay flat" properties and works nice for heavier thick papers. This glue has multiple uses in gluing collage, bookmaking, and can be used as a light duty glue for other things.

For this piece that was commented on I used PVA to glue the papers down and applied Golden matte medium to be able to draw on top of the glued papers.

Thank you so much for your kind and very insightful information! When it comes to materials I always find it the most satisfying to question experienced artists, so I know with what to start or continue experimenting with!
Thank you again for taking time to answer, and a very happy and productive new year to you!!!

lots of images are inundated with levels and levels of meaning but this one seems to work better just because its such a bold image. I like that, bold image + levels of meaning.
also collage rocks my socks

I like it a lot. Very impressive work on canvas.

From the comments and your message, it seems you certainly thought deeply on its elaboration and detail. You went to the books for this and the result of that investigation and executon is remarkable.

Un saludo. Keep the good work!

Oh woah! I just noticed how you set up the folds on the wings so that the words are aligned somewhat. That's really awesome! Very well thought out, very well executed.

Now I /really/ want to do something like this. Thank you!

I looked through the other birds in your gallery and I gotta say, I'm in love with them all. I mean not only are they adorable they're meaningful also, it was very nice looking at them. :D It makes me think... and feel inspired. It made my day really XDD

I gotta ask though, do you mind if I try practicing the style you used to draw these birds? If I posted the results anywhere (like on DA) I would credit you for it. :3 I've been kinda lost as to where to go with my style, so I think studying artwork I really like would be a big help. If you're against it though I wouldn't mind just looking at them.

I do not mind at all if you use this style. When I was developing a style for myself I borrowed characteristics I liked from other artists and developed those characteristics into something that felt like mine. It is not copying but taking something that is there and making it your own.
If you are copying artwork, yes, please make sure to give credit. I will do it if I find something I made looks suspiciously like it was copied from another artist. Thank you for asking!
Good luck and if you have questions, feel free to note me.

Nice! I don't think it is too similar to worry.
An example of one piece I did [link] .
I credited the artist that inspired this piece even though it is in my style.

If I ever feel unsure whether to credit another artist or not, I go ahead and credit them just to be safe.

Oh so gorgeous!! The chubbyness of the bird makes it all the more aesthetically pleasing. I love the text and the texture of the canvas and brush. Looove it.
