I like how the mixed medium artwork has been executed to look like a history of items combined with just simple shapes transformed - clock, circle and bird, and it combines the theme of nature in a time capsule - at least to my feeling, that possibly we could explore deeper into the image. The tree also brings to mind textured form which compliments the background so perfectly. The effect of the mixed medium nature to which it brings out the contrasts of the clock and it's shadow and background, while complimenting the lower area brings an inspiration to mind. Maybe it is the contrast of the mist at the bottom and the shadow at the top that seems like you are looking into time of perhaps the 1930's. It is one of the best works by Fitts!
Are you referring to the branches? It is a modified monotype technique: dark paint was applied to the painting surface; a separate piece of paper was laid on top of the paint and pressed; the separate paper was then lifted (from the "top") revealing the branches within a dark circle of paint; when dry, the dark paint was painted over with white, dried and sanded to real the "winter" branches. I hope that made sense!
Sorry. Many times it sounds better in my head. I am glad you got it! If you like it, I hope you try it out. If you have more questions about the techique, ask me.
Don't be sorry, I'm not good at understand art techniques for some reason. I had screenprinting explained over and over. It wasn't until I did it that I cottoned on. Interestingly, the tutor we had for that unit said I was a natural and should do screenprinting professionally.
Oh no, I didn't have to hide under the covers or anything Just haunting in a beautiful way, an atmosphere of mystery, hinting at an untold story. Love it!
