"Bird Queen of Diamonds in Doorway" Manipulated playing card. Acrylics, pastel & graphite pencil. ACEO (3-1/2x2-1/2 inches) PRINT NOT AVAILABLE
S. Fitts, 2010 My work is NOT to be copied, borrowed, distributed, manipulated or used in any way without my expressed written consent. If you have questions please note me.
First off, let me say that I love your work a lot!
However, this one feels so much more constrained that your other works (the point, behind the doorway, I'm sure...). Normally, your works make me feel expansive, free and kind of dreamy. (Which is why I think I respond so positively to them...)
This one, makes me feel uncomfortable and somewhat trapped. (That, and the queen's posture looks like she might need some chiropractic work - LOL) This is a very nice piece - and very well executed within the very limiting constraints of the original card design. I'm just finding my negative gut reaction to it (and it's just me - not your artwork) very interesting.
That's the point of art, isn't it? To make us think - not necessarily make us happy and comfortable?
Anyway, just random feedback. Please feel to disregard (or snicker at!)
Thank you for your great comment! I made the doorway on a whim after looking at the border on the card. The image is confined but I didn't intend for it to be stifling and uncomfortable. No worries! I have had far worse "negative" reactions to my work. Again, thank you and your comments, positive or negative, are welcome.
Thank you!
